UncategorizedThermal Comfort And Windows

The right window has a decisive influence on the room climate in the building. One study conducted by the PHI as part of its Living Comfort research project examined whether occupants experience living comfort as subjective well-being or as more objective thermal comfort, and how this is influenced by the choice of bespoke windows London. The test subjects monitored their living environment over a two week period and provided feedback using questionnaires. The result of the study: a clear connection between room temperature and the well-being of those living in it, which can be achieved with good windows.

The PHI’s study clearly shows that people feel most comfortable when room temperatures are between 20.5 and 22.5 °C (70 to 73 °F). In this range, heating energy is actually reduced, according to the PHPP energy simulation software for passive houses.

Windows have a major influence on temperature fluctuations in a room, since they enable heat exchange (solar radiation, conduction, convection) between indoor and outdoor areas. Especially during cold times of year, windows are responsible for heat losses that make up to 40 percent of total losses in a passive house. For this reason, windows should be considered early on when planning for energy efficiency and comfort in buildings.
